Vastu in Sanskrit means nature, a surrounding
or environment. The word "Vaasthu" came from Vasthu, denoting anything
existing such as house, shelter, building etc. Shastra in sanskrit means
systems. Vastu shastra is an ancient art and science, containing principles
and practises of constructing buildings which ensures a harmonious balance
between man and nature and thereby brings all round happiness, health, wealth
and prosperity. Vastu Shastra is a very old Indian science of Architecture.
Ancient Indian sages and rishis created Vastu Shastra for the welfare of the
entire humanity
The universe, including our human body,
comprises of five essential elements Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Sky. The
principles of Vastu are predominatly based on these five elements in their
order of appropriate proportions. Vastu principles mainly take into account,
the magnetic field of the earth, the influence of the cosmos and other life
forces existing in the atmosphere. Taking one example of Direction, keep
your head in the south to get sound sleep and study in the east to enhance
your knowledge.
Beautification and structural
design are not the only things or rules which shall be followed while
constructing a house. If a person spends a huge amount on a building and
there is no mental satisfaction and progress, it is an incomplete structure.
It results in inauspiciousness and miseries. One who follows the basic
principles of Vastu Shastra, in building a structure, can definitely get
peace of mind by having a transformed life style.
